With numerous music streaming services available via the Web and dedicated mobile applications. Endless features such as discover mode, skips per day, offline listening and 320kbps high quality streaming has made choosing the one that's right for you an increasingly difficult task. So we've compiled a list of the more popular music streaming services to help you choose the one that best fits your needs.

All of these music apps and websites are free with the exception of Grooveshark which is only free to use via the web and Rhapsody which will cost you $4.99/month enabling access via the web and their mobile application.

Spotify

With a catalogue of over 20 million tracks available, Spotify is arguably the most popular service for streaming music. Available in 58 countries worldwide, you can enjoy Spotify tracks for free via the web or mobile app for Android, iOS and Windows devices. You also have the option to subscribe to ad-free Spotify for $9.99 per month, which works offline and has an improved sound quality (320kbps), compared to the free version. Spotify Offers a wide variety of audio tracks, genres, artists, albums and playlists. They also offer features such as discover mode, which enables you to discover new music based on you’re listening history, social integration with Facebook, so you can see what you friends are listening to or share directly. There’s also a radio option that plays music related to your artist of choice.

Pandora

One of the original radio streaming services and among the most popular, Pandora is available for listeners in the US, New Zealand and Australia via the web or mobile app for Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices. Pandora is a free radio streaming service which allows you to choose a song so it can create a radio station of similar and related music. With a free account you can create up to 100 personalized radio stations. However, you do have the option to upgrade to an ad-free Pandora One account, for a monthly payment of $3.99. Similar to Spotify, Pandora uses a higher quality audio for paying users. iheartRadio

Similar to Pandora, iheartRadio is a radio streaming service, enabling you to listen online to live radio from more than 1,500 stations and create custom ad-free streaming stations, similar or related to a song or artist of your choice. Unlike most radio streaming apps and websites, this one is actually like traditional radio, offering various content types including talk shows, sports, news, and entertainment, which can be listened to on-demand. Available in the United States, iheartRadio is free to join via the web or their mobile app for Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows devices. With a catalogue of over 20 million songs and 450,000 artists covering numerous genres of music, iheartRadio is a very popular choice in radio streaming services.

Rhapsody

Available to users in the U.S. only, Rhapsody is a subscription-based streaming service that offers thousands of live radio stations with the added capability of access to on-demand music, with a catalogue of over 18 million songs. With no free plan on offer, Rhapsody has two subscription plans, unRadio and Premier. For $4.99/month unRadio will get you access to personalized radio, based on your favourite artist or track, skip as many songs as you want and play via the web or mobile app for Android, iOS, Windows and BlackBerry devices. For $9.99/month the Premiere option offers all the features of unRadio as well as unlimited access to millions of songs, download any song, album, or playlist and play on mobile, web, and home audio devices. With an ad-free, high quality (320kbps) service, Rhapsody is another popular choice.

Deezer

Deezer has a catalogue of over 30 million tracks available for playback. Like most music streaming services, at its most basic it offers music discovery, playlists, favourites and integrated social features. If you want to upgrade, Deezer has a Premium+ plan available for $9.99 per month. Upgrading will remove the listening restrictions and enable unlimited music streaming, as well as unlock access to higher quality music, access your playlists and albums without an internet connection in offline mode and more. Deezer also offer Deezer Elite a high definition-quality streaming service (up to 1,411 kbps) available to Sonos users only. Deezer is available in 182 countries worldwide including US, UK and Europe, via the web or their mobile app for Android, iOS, Windows and BlackBerry devices.

Grooveshark

Available in over in over 200 countries, Grooveshark is a streaming service for playing back individual tracks, artists and albums, with ad-supported listening across a wide range of genres. Without even creating an account, you can begin queuing up tracks in a playlist, but to save a playlist you’ll need to create a free account. However, this will only enable access to the service via your browser. For $5 per month, you can subscribe to the Anywhere premium plan that allows usage via Android or iOS apps (on a jailbroken device). Similar to Spotify, Grooveshark's features include the option to share songs or playlists with friends on Facebook, and other social networking platforms. They also offer a desktop application, radio streaming and uploading your own music, song and artist suggestions related to your listening history and more.

SoundCloud

With a huge catalogue of music and the ability to upload your own mixes and tracks, SoundCloud was originally intended for people to share their own musical creations. As it has grown in popularity and size, bigger artists and labels have also signed up, allowing their music to be available through the platform. A free account will enable two upload hours, unlimited playlists, 100 downloads and access to some stats, such as number of plays, downloads, and favourites of tracks. Subscribing to a $35/year plan will allow you up to 6 hours of content, or a $99/year plan which allows unlimited uploads, this additional hosting space allows users to distribute their tracks or recordings to more users, create sets of recordings, and more. SoundCloud is available in over 200 countries worldwide via the web and native mobile apps for Android, iOS, Windows, and BlackBerry devices.
